Day Tour 2
West Coast - this route will take us along the spectacular Dingli Cliffs offering stunning views of the Mediterranean and an opportunity to see the more rural side of the island.
Limestone Heritage - is a unique insight into the past and present cultures of an ancient culture set in stone. Discover the story of quarrying and masonry in Malta since the prehistoric times, there is also a unique collection of tools, vintage vehicles and machinery. This is a walk-through audio experience with the aid of specially designed dioramas.
Hagar Qim Temples - situated on the southern coast of the island, these temples are among the most imposing megalithic structures in Malta. Dating back 3000 years BC, some of the stones are 4 metres high and weigh a staggering 20 tons.
Blue Grotto - this picturesque grotto and its neighbouring system of sea caverns mirrors the brilliant phosphorescent colures of underwater flora. Boat trips, which take around 25 minutes allow you to explore these grottoes and sea caverns along this stretch of coast. The boat trip operates subject to weather conditions.
Marsaxlokk - is a quaint fishing village on the south coast. The village is characterized by low lying buildings and the colourful traditional fishing boats known as the 'luzzu'. A small market lines the seafront and if you would like to sample local fresh fish there are plenty of good quality restaurants to choose from.
Rabat - can claim the origins of Maltese Christianity. It was here in AD60 that the Apostle St Paul is said to have lived after being shipwrecked on the islands. It is worthwhile visiting St. Paul's Grotto which is said to be the resting place of the Saint during his visit to the islands.
One can also visit the outstanding ruins of the Domvs Romana (1st Century B.C. with its remarkable polychrome mosaic pavement.
Day Tour 3
Tour of the Island of Gozo
Gozo's charm is apparent the moment you arrive. Greener, more rural and smaller than Malta , the impact of tourism is less visible. Our tour starts with a pleasant 25 minute ferry crossing. We feature all the main highlights during our tour including.
Ggantija Temples - the earliest free standing megalithic temples, pre-dating the Pyramids. They were built in 3600 BC. It is still a mystery how the people of those days were able to move the gigantic boulders some reaching as high as six meters. According to an old myth, a female giant call "Sansuna" carried the rocks on her head from an area known as Ta’Cenc.
Calypso Cave - situated in the cliff face, this cave has legendary connections with Calypso. According to Homer she charmed Odysseus (Ulysses) into staying on Gozo for seven years. The view from the cave mouth is magnificent and overlooks the fertile Ramla Valley, and the beautiful red sands of Ramla Bay below.
Basilica of Ta'Pinu - The origin of Ta’Pinu goes back to 1883 when a peasant women, Carmela Grima, heard the voice of the Blessed Virgin in a little old chapel. In 1931 Ta’Pinu was consecrated and in 1932 Pope Pius XI gave it the status of Basilica. The Basilica is a famous pilgrimage site for Maltese and Gozitans all the year round.
The Citadel or Gran Castello - dominating the heights above Victoria, has impressive battlements. The origins of this fortified enclave go back to Gozo’s early history under Roman and Arab occupation. The views from its fortified walls offer panoramas of the whole island,.
Xlendi Bay - is a charming little village and a favourite with visitors and locals alike. The small promenade and beach is lined with restaurants, bars and cafeterias.
Inland Sea/Azure Window - The Azure Window is an impressive natural arch standing some 20metres high. It is connected to so-called Inland Sea which is a locked-in lake. The Window was created when the roof of an immense cave collapsed some 80 to 100metres. Boat trips are available from the lake and through the tunnel which links the Inland Sea to the open sea and from there to the Azure Window. The boat trip operates subject to weather conditions.
During the day you will have a short break for lunch in one of the delightful local restaurants (lunch is at an extra charge)
